Maine Bar Exam Format
The Maine Bar Exam is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of six 45-minute essay questions and one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

A scaled score of 80 on the MPRE is required for admission.
Maine Bar Exam Scoring and Results
The MBE is weighted 4/11, the written portion is weighted 7/11, and the scores are scaled and combined to determine if a passing score of 138 was achieved. Results are released 75 days after the exam.

Maine Bar Exam MBE Reciprocity
Maine may accept MBE scores from other jurisdictions.
Maine Bar Exam Reciprocity
An applicant who (i) has been engaged in the active practice of law for three of the five years immediately preceding the application, or (ii) has taken the MBE within the prior 61 months to the current exam may elect to take only the first day of the examination. An applicant qualified under either (i) or (ii) that has achieved a usable MBE scaled score may be admitted on the basis of a further modified written examination.
