Maryland Bar Exam Format
The Maryland Bar Exam is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of ten Maryland essay questions and one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

Maryland does not require the MPRE.
Maryland Bar Exam Scoring and Results
The MBE is weighted 1/3, the written portion is weighted 2/3, and the scores are scaled and combined to determine if a passing score of 406 out of a possible 600 points was achieved. Results are released in early May for the February exam and in early November for the July exam.

Maryland accepts MBE scores from other jurisdictions from concurrent exams only.
Maryland Bar Exam Reciprocity
An out-of-state applicant is required to take an essay exam on Maryland Evidence, Maryland Civil/Criminal Practice & Procedure, and Rules of Professional Conduct. The applicant must have engaged in the active practice of law for ten years, or five of the ten years immediately preceding application, must have been admitted by exam in another state, and must have intent to practice in Maryland.
