New York Bar Exam Format
The New York Bar Exam is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of five New York drafted essay questions, one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question, and 50 New York multiple-choice questions. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

MPRE
A scaled score of 85 on the MPRE within three years before or after passing the New York Bar Exam is required for admission.
New York Bar Exam Scoring and Results
The MBE and NY essay questions are each weighted 40%, and the MPT and NY multiple-choice questions are each weighted 10%. The scores are scaled and combined to determine if a passing score of 665 out of a possible 1000 points was achieved. Results are released in early May for the February exam and in late November for the July exam.

New York Bar Exam MBE Reciprocity
New York accepts MBE scores from other jurisdictions, only if from a concurrent exam.
New York Bar Exam Reciprocity
In order to be eligible for admission without taking the New York Bar Exam, an applicant must be a member of a reciprocating state bar, have engaged in the active practice of law for five of the seven years immediately preceding the application, and be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school.
