North Carolina Bar Exam Format
The North Carolina Bar Exam is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of twelve North Carolina essay questions. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

Business Associations (including Agency, Corporations & Partnerships), Civil Procedure, Equity, Family Law, Legal Ethics, Secured Transactions, U.C.C., Taxation, Trusts & Wills (Decedents’ Estates), Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Constitutional Law, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts
MPRE
A scaled score of 80 on the MPRE within 24 months before or 12 months after sitting for the bar exam is required for admission.
North Carolina Bar Exam Scoring and Results
The MBE is weighted 40%, the essays are weighted 60%, and the scores are combined to determine if a passing score was achieved. Results are released in late March for the February exam and in late August for the July exam.

North Carolina Bar Exam MBE Reciprocity
North Carolina does not accept MBE scores from other jurisdictions.
North Carolina Bar Exam Reciprocity
In order to be eligible for admission without taking the North Carolina Bar Exam, an applicant must be a member of a reciprocating state bar, have engaged in the active practice of law for four of the six years immediately preceding the application, and have passed the MPRE.
