Rhode Island Bar Exam Format
The Rhode Island Bar Exam is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question, three 30-minute Rhode Island essay questions, and six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

MPRE
A scaled score of 80 on the MPRE is required before taking the bar exam. MPRE scores are valid for two years.
Rhode Island Bar Exam Scoring and Results
The MBE, essay, and MPT scores are scaled and combined to determine if a passing score of 276 was achieved. A minimum MBE score of 130 must be achieved. Results are released in mid-May for the February exam and in mid-October for the July exam.

Rhode Island accepts MBE scores from other jurisdictions, if from a concurrent bar exam.
Rhode Island Bar Exam Reciprocity
Rhode Island does not provide for admission on motion; examination is required of all applicants. An applicant who has engaged in the active practice of law for five of the ten years immediately preceding application is required only to take the Rhode Island essay exam and MPT, which require a scaled score of 138 to pass.
