Vermont Bar Exam Format
The Vermont Bar Exam is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions and four essay questions. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

MPRE
A scaled score of 80 on the MPRE is required for admission.
Vermont Bar Exam Scoring and Results
A minimum scaled score of 135 on the MBE and a scaled score of 135 on the essays must be achieved to pass the exam. Results are released approximately eight weeks after the bar exam.

Vermont Bar Exam MBE Reciprocity
Vermont accepts a scaled MBE score of 135 or higher from another jurisdiction, provided the exam was taken within the previous four administrations.
Vermont Bar Exam Reciprocity
In order to be eligible for admission without taking the Vermont Bar Exam, an applicant must have engaged in the active practice of law for five of the ten years (or the reciprocal state’s time period if three years or more) immediately preceding application. Special rules apply for NH and ME attorneys.
